‘Patronising’: MP savages George Soros for saying he wants to ‘educate’ Brits about Brexit

Hungarian-American investor and philanthropist Mr Soros is estimated to be worth more than $8 billion. Mr Soros grew up in the Nazi-occupied country and emigrated to the United Kingdom in 1947, before moving to the United States in 1956. He has donated more than £2billion to progressive and liberal causes, prompting accusations of political interference. Speaking to the Guardian, Mr Soros was asked why he had funded Better for Britain, a pro-Remain group which is advocating tactical voting in a bid to derail Brexit.

Brexit is a process of disintegration that hurts both sides

Mr Soros said: “It falls into the category of what I call political philanthropy.

“Brexit is a process of disintegration that hurts both sides.

“It hurts Britain more on a pro rata basis and Europe more in absolute terms.

“Most importantly, European values can be better defended if the two of them are united.

“My contributions were not used for partisan or electoral purposes.

“They were used to educate the British public.”

Mr Kawczynski, who was himself born in neighbouring Poland, said: “He is obviously part of a Herculean effort to try to instigate propaganda in the UK.

“He says we don’t know what we are doing.

“He says we are making a mistake and he wants to change our minds.

“He is typical of some of the patronising, privileged people you have in Europe.

“He has an enormous amount of disdain for the decision we have made.

“Of course, the opposite is actually true, because when people out in the world see the success we make of Brexit, they’ll learn about the EU.”

Mr Kawczynski, who will seek to be re-elected as MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham on December 12, added: “Mr Soros has a track record of interfering.

“I would suggest he concentrates on his billions and leave other countries to manage their own affairs.

“In this country we rightly call out allegations of interference against for example Russia.

“But it seems like if you are an individual with huge resources you can do that.”
