Boris Johnson’s bizarre video selfie from plane calling himself ‘your captain’

Boris Johnson has posted a bizarre selfie video from a plane, telling hid followers 'this is your captain speaking.'

In the footage, the Prime Minister promises he is "cautiously optimistic" Britain will be able to seal a deal before leaving the EU.

The under-fire PM also makes a promise to invest in making northern train services more accountable.

However, some Twitter users noted the Tory leader had himself avoided the north's famously unreliable trains – and was flying from Leeds Airport.

In the six-minute long video, the PM repeats his hopes he could secure a deal before leaving the EU – even as a courtroom showdown over his controversial suspension of Parliament begins today.

His claims of "optimism" over a deal come as both Labour and his own ousted Tory moderate MPs have pointed out his chaotic Brexit strategy has so far been focused on threats of "crashing out" without one.

“We’re about to take off, we’re about to take off, fasten your seatbelts,” Mr Johnson proclaims in the video, before promising his administration will bring in a “new golden era” of shipbuilding for the UK.

“Here’s the right metaphor. The UK is about to take off as a great shipbuilding nation,” he tells followers in the video as the plane's engines rev.

He also accuses Labour rival Jeremy Corbyn of cowardice for criticising the controversial move to suspend Parliament while refusing an election challenge.

“Some MPs thought that was, you know, anti-democratic, even though we offered them an election twice which they turned down, spinelessly.”

Mr Johnson also claims the prorogation only caused a net loss of four days in parliamentary sitting time because of the extended length of the last session.

That left politicians “plenty of time” after Oct 17 to debate Brexit before Britain is due to leave EU on October 31st, Mr Johnson tells his Twitter followers.

The Tory leader ends the video with: “That’s it from me folks, over and out. This is your captain speaking, over and out.”

The trademark foppish schtick on show in the video that wins over his supporters has provoked equal measures of ridicule in recent days, after Mr Johnson compared himself to the 'Incredible Hulk' in an interview.

Yesterday, Johnson was humiliated anew after he chickened out of a press conference with Luxembourg's PM amid energetic protests in the country.

Luxembourg's furious PM Xavier Bettel gesticulated at the empty podium next to him, and criticised him over his no-show.
