Van driver, 58, dies in M25 crash with tanker

A man has died on the M25 in a crash involving a tanker and a van which closed the motorway overnight.

Surrey Police confirmed on Monday morning that the van driver, a 58-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene late on Sunday.

His next of kin are now being tracked down by police.

The crash involved the man’s VW Transporter van and a tanker lorry between junctions five and six near Godstone, Surrey.

Police said the crash happened at 11.15pm on Sunday and they closed the London ring-road between the two junctions going clockwise until 5am on Monday to carry out an investigation.

The M26 London-bound was also closed.

Police are asking any drivers who witnessed the crash or who stopped at the scene to help to contact them on 101.

Anybody who has any information, including dashcam footage, should also get in touch.

The crash happened on the same day as an 80-year-old man died on the M23 in Surrey, close to the M25 junction, after he took a wrong turn during the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

He ended up on the motorway, which was not part of the route, in his 1903 Knox Runabout Old Porcupine which has an open cabin and a maximum speed of 35mph and was involved in a crash with a lorry.
