The Princess Royal, 70, proved from a young age she is reliable and trustworthy. So much so, that Princess Alexandra asked her to be her chief bridesmaid when she was just twelve.

Anne took on the huge responsibility as her mother’s cousin married Sir Angus Ogilvy.

The 1963 ceremony saw the royal couple wed at Westminster Abbey in front of the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Princess Margaret.

Photographs from that day show Anne and Alexandra inspecting a gold bangle given to Alexandra as a present.

Princess Alexandra is the Queen’s cousin – the daughter of Prince George, Duke of Kent.

Prince George was the younger brother of Edward VIII and George VI.

She is known as The Honourable Lady Ogilvy and has two brothers – Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent.

Since the departure of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from the Firm, Princess Alexandra has gained popularity as a working royal.

The onset of the coronavirus crisis also forced some of the lesser known royals to step up in order to help the Queen with her royal duties.

Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who has also stepped up to help in recent times, received a new patronage from Alexandra last week.

On Thursday, the Royal Family tweeted photos of Sophie and Alexandra during a joint engagement at a guide dogs charity.

Royal fans took to Twitter to praise the royal women’s work following the outing.

One wrote: “How lovely to see such lovely ladies together and supporting such a good cause. The Countess will make such a good patron.”

Another added: “Two beautiful ladies & a very lovely patronage. I’m sure the Countess will make an excellent job as Patron. Congrats!”
