UK crimewave: Police on the hunt for masked men who tried to KIDNAP schoolgirls

The girls were walking home from school along Acocks Green in southeast Birmingham, at around 6.15pm on 3 May when they noticed a white van “being driven suspiciously”. Two men jumped out of the vehicle and tried to “drag them” into the van, but a passer-by heard the girls’ cries for help and the suspects ran off. The girls said the men wore masks and spoke in a foreign language. Officers said it was a “a disturbing incident” and are trying to locate the the van and the two men, who are believed to have ran in the direction of Warwick Road.

Police are inquiring CCTV evidence and are appealing for any witnesses with more information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Kiteley of West Midlands Police said: “This was a disturbing incident involving two young girls and we are making enquiries to trace the white van and the two men.

“I’m also hoping to find the man who helped the girls and scared away their attackers.

“His information may prove vital to the ongoing investigation.”

“We understand incidents like this are a cause for concern.

Police have also urged children and parents to “remain vigilant” and will increase police efforts in the area to ensure the local community remains safe.

He added: “I’d like to assure the local community that we’re increasing patrols and liaising with local schools to make sure people feel safe.

“I’d ask children and parents alike to remain vigilant, be aware of their personal safety and to report any suspicious incidents to the police.”

West Midlands Police are treating the incident as an attempted abduction.
