Two pedestrians die after being hit by car as police arrest man, 32

A man has been arrested after two pedestrians died after they were hit by a car.

The two pedestrians, both men in their 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene outside a school in Bedford just after midday on Saturday.

A statement said: ‘At around 12.22pm, Bedfordshire Police received reports of a collision outside the Bedford Sixth Form in Bromham Road, involving a car and two pedestrians.

‘Emergency services attended and two men, both in their 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene. While formal identification has not yet taken place, their next of kin have been informed.

‘A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.’
