Too early to say when coronavirus pandemic will peak in the UK
England’s deputy chief medical officer has said it is ‘too early to say yet’ when the coronavirus pandemic will peak in the UK.
Dr Jenny Harries told the daily Downing Street press briefing that ‘we are only just starting to see’ the effects of measures put in place to try and combat the spread of the virus.
She said: ‘I think we are starting to see some helpful movement, and what we will be looking for is changes in the slope. Rather than a steep curve up, we will be looking for a gentle slope.’
The deputy CMO said things looked to be moving ‘in the right direction’ in that regard thanks to measures like social distancing, but warned: ‘We must not take our foot off the peddle.’
