‘This ISN’T 1999!’ Fury as luvvie Hugh Grant backs LABOUR in tactical bid to block Brexit

Hugh Grant admitted he admired Chuka Umunna for his “principles” and called on Britons to vote tactically to unseat the Conservative MPs such as Iain Duncan Smith. While speaking beside the Liberal Democrat MP in London the actor added that he could not contemplate the “country he loves” from being run by a new Boris Johnson lead Tory government. He added that since the expelling of Tory members earlier this year the part is, lacking “responsible, decent and sane people.”

Mr Grant said: “You may well know why I am here.

“It is very unlike me, I have never been involved in a general election campaign before in my long 59 years.

“But this time I do think it is different, I think we are facing, I don’t want to sound dramatic but you could argue that is my job, but I really do think we are facing a national emergency.

“I don’t think what is left of the Conservative Party, now they have expelled anyone who was responsible, decent or sane is something that I can contemplate as a government of the country that I love.

“I just think that we all have to do everything we can, clearly all of you already are.

“But it is moved me to finally get up to do everything that I can to stop that happening.

“So I am wandering around London and the suburbs banging the drum for tactical voting because I think in the absence of a complete Remain alliance that is our only hope as voters.

‘So I go around shouting vote for the person with the best chance of unseating the Tories to save the country.

“There is no question that in London and Westminster that the answer to the vote to tactical vote here is Chuka.

“I have admired him for some time, I agree he is a man of principle and a rare species to the world of British politics these days.”

The actor has also tweeted an flyer publicising a Labour candidate Faiza Shaheen of which he will appear at on Wednesday.

He wrote: “Lib Dems have chance to topple IDS by voting for Labour and Faiza Shaheen here in Chingford. #tacticalvoting.”

But on Twitter many took to criticising the British actor for his outspoken views regarding Brexit and the election.

Another added: “He’s just another actor who thinks he’s more important than he actually is.

“I have far less respect for him that I had before and that wasn’t much in any case.

“People like Hugh lose votes.”

And Ali Al-Mufti wrote: “A liberal elitist telling the common folk what to do again.

“This isn’t 1999 Hugh. Not enough people have seen Notting Hill anymore.”
