Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a blaze in east London, an update from London Fire Brigade has said.

Crewmembers were sent to Kingsland Road in Hackney and a social media update was posted alerting Londoners about the incident just after 4am.

However, a clip circulated on Twitter from the area at around 3.20am.

The footage showed a number of firefighters and fire engines at the scene.

The user accompanied the post with a caption which said: “May they all be safe. I can smell smoke.

“It’s definitely a fire. Flats on Kingsland Road near Shoreditch.”
