Stanley Johnson warns against ‘blanket policy’ in lockdown as he aims to climb Kilimanjaro

Boris Johnson’s father told LBC that he hoped the UK Government would not impose a blanket policy on over 70’s during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Johnson stated that when the coronavirus crisis is over there will still be problems in the world such as environmental issues.

Mr Johnson said: “I am fit and well.

“I am not asking for special treatment but I don’t think you can have a blanket policy.

“I have total respect for the way the Government is tackling this coronavirus thing.

“I am not making a special plea.”

Speaking regarding climbing Mount Kilimanjaro he added: “I want to do it, I really want to do it.

“I do believe that when the coronavirus is over some of the other problems are still there such as environmental problems.,

“The first time round I did it for gorillas, now I want to do it for the Asian elephant.”

Mr Hancock tweeted an picture of the front page of today’s Sunday Times and referred to a headline that read, “Set free healthy over seventies, say doctors”.

The Health Secretary then demanded the paper make a correction.

Mr Hancock said: “Sad to see another factually wrong and misleading article on p1 of the Sunday Times.

“The clinically vulnerable, who are advised to stay in lockdown for 12 weeks, emphatically DO NOT include all over 70s.

“I’ve asked for an urgent correction.”

Mr Neil tweeted in response: “But government website, in listing what it means by ‘clinically vulnerable people’, begins: 1. Aged 70 or over (regardless of medical condition).”

The Government website does indeed state the clinically vulnerable include the over 70s, regardless of medical conditions.
