Scottish independence campaigners mocked for boycotting British produce with Union flag

‘Yes’ supporters have been labelled as “completely insane” after a woman boasted about putting a small stone, emblazoned with ‘Yes’, on a packet of chicken breasts. Independence campaigners even revealed they had boycotted buying products and even supermarkets that used labels with the Union flag.

She wrote: “Tesco East Kilbride. Also, put one of the union jack branded bread but didn’t manage a photo.”

It appears the campaigner targeted the chicken packet due to its Union Jack labelling.

Her image prompted another Scottish independence supporter to reveal she has considered buying “saltire stickers to rebrand” the produce from British to Scottish.

She wrote: “I’m curious, was the chicken Scottish? But rebranded British?

“I’m thinking about buying saltire stickers to rebrand the Scottish produce back! But I’m feart incase I get arrested for tampering with their goods.”(sic)

Others revealed how they refuse to buy products with the Union Jack displayed on them when food shopping.

One said: “If it’s got a jack put it back. Tesco lost my custom.”

Another said: “I refuse to buy anything with it. They should be putting the country of origin whether Scotland, England or Wales.

Another supporter commented: “I now go to Tescos very rarely and buy nothing with that on it.”

The supporters are part of a Facebook group, YES stones, which encourages Scottish independence supporters to paint stones and pebbles and plant them across Scotland and the world.

The group description says: “We paint stones, pebbles, slate (anything really!) and then ‘plant’ them all over Scotland and indeed the world.

“The message is YES to Scottish independence and we hope there will be a little subliminal message for all to see wherever they are found.

“Everyone that shares our dream for Scotland is welcome.”

But angry Twitter users hit back saying the supermarket stunt was “desperate”.

One angry Twitter user posted the image and tweeted Tesco saying: “Apparently there are at least two women who place painted rocks on produce at Tesco East Kilbride (and other branches) potentially contaminating food.

“Do you have any advice for these silly people?”

Another posted: “Head cases! What kind of crackpot goes into a supermarket to do this?”

One tweeted: “Every time I see this sort of thing it absolutely confirms how right I am in thinking that the cult are getting desperate and that they will never prevail over common sense.

A Twitter user simply said: “They need help.”

Another said: “That’s a level of lunacy that can’t be reasoned with.”

One added: “Somebody needs a new hobby!”
