Royal SHOCK: Correspondents asked to test Prince William and Kate’s harness on 164ft tree

Speaking to the Royal Box, the Sunday Times’ royal correspondent claimed she accompanied Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, on a trip to the Borneo rainforest where she was asked to “test” the harnesses that would have kept the royal couple safe on a 164ft tree the following day. Ms Nikkhah made the shock revelation as she discussed past trips of the Royal Family she attended.

She said: “I did a tour with William and Kate. There was going to be a very iconic shot of William and Kate above the canapé of the rainforest in Borneo.

“Me and another royal correspondent were asked to test the harnesses the day before William and Kate.

“And I remember saying to the guy who was going to hoist us 164ft up ‘what happens if that harness fails?’

“And he said ‘Well, you know. It fails today and not tomorrow’.”

The royal couple has recently come under fire after footage emerged of the couple and their children boarding a commercial flight as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry face ongoing criticism over using private jets for their holidays.

Kate and William were spotted boarding a low-cost flight to Aberdeen with their children ahead of their yearly visit to Balmoral, Scotland.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen lugging their bags onto the plane with the help of trusted nanny Maria Borallo and children George, Charlotte and Louis in tow.

But royal commentator Melanie Bromley questioned their decision to take a commercial flight days after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were revealed to have used private jets to holiday in Europe despite their campaigning for better environmental behaviour.

The chief E! News correspondent said: “They had to get a commercial flight while the whole week has been about Harry and Meghan taking four private jet flights in a week.

“It’s like – come on William and Kate. I get it, they are going to Scotland to spend the summer with the Queen.

“But of all the weeks to be pictured on your commercial flight, your £73 budget airline, it had to be this week?”

Ms Bromley added: “Could you not, just for once, have taken a private jet this week so that Harry and Meghan do not look bad? Isn’t that fascinating?”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been facing growing criticism over the past month due to comments made in Vogue magazine during the Duchess of Sussex’ stint as guest editor.

The couple spoke out about their concerns about the future of the planet and said they wanted to help promote better environmental standards with their charitable work. But some commentators claimed their decision to speak out put the Royal Family too close to the political sphere.

And earlier this week it was revealed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had used four private jets within one week to holiday in Europe. Meghan and Harry took off for Ibiza to celebrate the Duchess’s 38th birthday and later visited family friend Sir Elton John in Nice, France, with their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The international superstar spoke out in defence of the royals, saying he had lent them his personal jet and had paid off a contribution to charity CarbonFootprint to offset the impact of the journey.
