Royal secret revealed: Is THIS the touching reason royals wore blue at Ascot?

From Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge to Queen Elizabeth II, Ascot’s royal enclosure was a sea of blue yesterday as royals pitched up to the prestigious day of racing. But why did so many royals wear blue?

While the royal men wore traditional top hats and morning suits, the women seemed to have mostly opted for blue outfits.

This may have been to show a united front as a family or just an amusing coincidence, but there’s another touching reason that may be behind their outfit choices.

Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice all turned up wearing blue two.

From dark indigo to pale pastels their outfits were all very different styles, but it seems like they all may have got the same memo.

The Duchess of Cambridge chose a pretty lace dress by Elie Saab, paired with a Philip Treacy hat.

The Queen wore a blue floral dress with a cornflower blue coat over the top, while a blue hat with large flowers and white gloves completed her look.

Zara Tindall, 38, also chose a floral dress, pairing it with a baby blue hat worn on top of her head. A pair of drop pearl earrings could be seen in her ears.

Not to be outdone, Princess Beatrice also stepped out in blue tones.
