Royal row: Devastated Meghan Markle ‘aware she is pitted’ against Kate – ‘It’s very clear’

The insider told People that Meghan and Kate are on “different paths”. They said: “Meghan is very aware that Kate will be queen; their roles are very clear.

“Meghan doesn’t fit the mould while Kate was groomed for this.

“What’s challenging is when they are pitted against each other.

“That’s been challenging to both of them.

“Meghan has her life, Kate has hers.”

The source claimed, however, that the two didn’t intend on competing with each other.

They said that both Meghan and Kate were more focused on their families than battling it out.

The comments came as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex began a six-week break from royal duties, beginning last week.

They recently announced their plans on celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with their six-month-old son Archie and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in America.

Royal sources claimed the Queen was in the dark about these plans, until he called her at Buckingham Palace earlier this month to decline her open invite to festive celebrations.

Despite this, it is understood that Her Majesty has given Harry her full support.

According to the source who spoke to People, Harry and Meghan are trying to “carve out a different sort of public life and reset the rules”.

The source added: “William and Kate toe the line, maybe because they have to, but Harry and Meghan are saying no.

“No to releasing the names of Archie’s godparents, no to saying where Meghan gave birth.”

Last month, for the first time, Harry and Meghan opened up about their struggles coping with royal life and media scrutiny.

The admission came during ITV’s documentary, Meghan and Harry: An African Journey, which followed the pair around during their royal tour of South Africa.

During an interview on the documentary, Meghan said that not many people had asked her if she was “okay”.

She told journalist Tom Bradby that she had difficulty in coping with the intense tabloid interest in her life.

She said:”It’s not enough to just survive something, that’s not the point of life. You have got to thrive.”

Harry, meanwhile, refused to rule out the fact that a divide had came between him and his brother, William, acknowledging, “we are on different paths at the moment”.

Last month, it was reported that Kate was ready to break her silence and do her best to revive the bond between the four royals.

Phil Dampier, a expert on the royal family, disclosed the fact that Kate was ready to draw a line under any difficulties Prince Harry and William have.

As well as this, he said the Duchess was also ready to make an attempt at bringing the couples together after recognising Meghan’s struggles.

Mr Dampier said: “Behind the scenes I’m told Kate is doing her best to bring everyone together and help Meghan.

“None of them want to let the Queen down so Kate is trying to patch things up in private.

“I’m told she has reached out to Meghan and spoken to her on the phone. Kate feels sorry for her and knows that Meghan is struggling.”
