The UK is home to almost 3,000 royal-related street names, and new research shows living on one of those roads can significantly improve the value of properties. Houses featuring Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are worth almost £100,000 more than the UK average.

The research, conducted by OnlineMortgageAdvisor.co.uk found having a royal street name increased the value of properties by an average of £21,289.

Street names with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, are particularly prominent in areas of south east England.

Road names included, Camilla Close, Camilla Road and Camilla Court.

Streets which included the Duchess’ name sold for about £94,957 more than the UK average, which currently stands at £237,834.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was found to be the most valuable royal name.

Properties on street names with this royal moniker are valued at a whopping £221,016 more than the average price of a UK property.

The researchers even found sound houses cost almost half a million, on average (£458,850).

These road names were found mostly in Nottingham and Slough.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, placed third in the research, with street names increasing the value of homes by £67,728 on average.

Road names featuring Kate appear 123 times and are most commonly found in the South West (18).

The Queen’s name did not add significant values to properties, with houses worth £13,590 more than the UK average.

But the monarchs’ name is popular across the country, with 456 featuring the Queen’s name.

Researchers found the Duke of Edinburgh appeared to decrease the value of properties.

Homes featuring Philip sold for £110,295 less than the UK average.

Street names including Edward, the Earl of Wessex, William, the Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Charles also decreased property value, by £20,855, £19,557 and £13,128 respectively.

The researchers used Zoopla, an online company that provides access to up-to-date house prices, and Streetlist, an online database of over 800,000 road names, to compile a list of road names that included working members of the Royal Family.

They then used Zoopla to discover the average house price of each street in the UK that included a royal in its title.

The street names analysed only included those with a royal name at the start, for example “Avenue Alexandra” would not have been included but “Alexandra Avenue” has.

Researchers then compared the average cost of each royal road name to the Government Land Registry Data’s House Prince Index to find the average cost of a house in the UK.

The data, which was collected in September 2020, was then analysed to find out whether each royal road name increased or decreased the value of a house.
