Royal gift: Meghan Markle desperate to give Archie present so he can make ‘memories’

Meghan is keen for her son to forge plenty of childhood memories and is keen to give him a loyal companion to spend time with. According to The Sun, the Duchess of Sussex is planning to visit nearby animal shelters in order to pick up a rescue dog for her son. Meghan put together the plan after she and Prince Harry held their private christening for Archie on Saturday.

A royal source told The Sun: “Meghan really wants a dog with whom Archie can associate his childhood.

“Rescue dogs are a huge passion for her so the pull to adopt rather than buy a puppy is far stronger.

“She hopes they strike up an incredible bond and Archie can make plenty of memories.”

Meghan has long been an advocate of animal charities and this year she became the patron of animal welfare charity Mayhew.

Meghan and Harry already have a labrador which they got in last September and has her own rescue beagle, Guy.

Recently, Meghan also touchingly admitted that Harry and herself couldn’t take any more animals home during her visit to the Mayhew.

She said at the time: “We can’t take another dog before the baby.

“Our hands are full.”

Meghan herself was heartbroken when she had to leave her Labrador-German shepherd, Bogard at home.

The dog was thought to be too old to travel when Meghan travelled to the UK.

Meghan isn’t the only royal to have a keen love for dogs as the Queen famously had more than 30 corgis since she was 18, the last died last year.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William also have a cocker spaniel named Lupo, a present from her brother James.
