Royal feud: The REAL reason for royal’s empty diary – Royal Court speaks out

The royal families of mainland Europe operate in much the same way as those of the UK, as they perform royal duties with appearances at select events. Sweden’s royal family is no different, with members tasked to public appearances regularly, but people are questioning why one of the family’s most dedicated members has scaled back her public appearances.

Late 2019 marked a momentous change for the Swedish royal family as King Carl XVI Gustaf reduced the size of the working monarchy.

He stripped several of his grandchildren of their titles, revoking their status as working royals, and ultimately mounted pressure on those who continue to serve under the monarchy.

The immediate effects of the decision would have meant more work for other family members, but the King’s right hand Crown Princess Victoria has an empty diary next week.

Rumours began to swell about what was keeping the princess from her official duties, forcing the Swedish royal court to comment on what happened.

Speaking to Swedish magazine “Svensk Damtidning” Sven Tegel, from the Swedish royal court’s information department, said the Princess is still working but in private.

He said: “The Crown Princess has the rest of this week filled with several internal meetings and commitments.

“She recently spoke at a sustainability seminar at the Finnish Institute of Finland in Stockholm.

“Additional official programs are not planned.”

The Princess will return to normal engagements after next week, as she is expected to attend several public events.

Among these are those connected to the Nobel Prize ceremonies, due to take place on December 10 this year.

The day will see the family attend the Nobel dinner at Stockholm’s City Hall.

Royals expected to attend are the King and Queen, the Crown Princess and her husband, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and Princess Madeleine.

According to the Princess’ newly updated diary, her schedule is once again packed after December 12.

She remains highly involved in working with several charity organisations and takes the King’s place when he is unable to perform his duties as head of state.

Among her focusses are children and young people, international work with peace, and she is a UN ambassador for Global Goals.

Other members of the family will not be going back to work soon, however, as they have been stripped from their royal duties.

King Carl XVI Gustaf’s decision in early October means five of his grandchildren no longer have the title of royal highness.

A statement from the royal family declared the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and the children of Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill are members of The Royal House.

The statement added: “Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne will continue to be members of The Royal Family.

“However, they will no longer enjoy the style of Royal Highness and, in the future, will not be expected to perform duties incumbent on the Head of State.”
