Royal fans spotted secret Meghan Markle and Harry message from the Queen last Monday

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will stop being working members of the Royal Family in the Spring and will no longer use their HRH titles, Buckingham Palace announced last night. The couple will no longer formally represent the Queen. But some eagle-eyed royal fans and expert commentators had already spotted a huge clue that Meghan and Harry were to ditch the Sussex titles earlier in the week.

Ahead of last night’s statement of the Palace, which confirmed the future arrangements of Meghan and Harry, the Queen updated fans on the progress of the crunch royal talks.

In the statement, published on Monday, the Queen referred to the couple as Meghan and Harry, neglecting to use their official royal titles.

Not once in the statement did the Queen refer to them as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, leading some commentators to say the omission is a hint the pair will be stripped of their official titles.

Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter said the decision to use their first names was likely to be telling, she posted on Twitter: “I do think it was very striking, particularly in a statement from the Queen.”

Royal editor and chief investigative reporter at the Daily Mirror Russell Myers agreed and wrote on Twitter: “What is most remarkable about this statement, perhaps, is the Queen referring to them as ‘Harry and Meghan’ and not by their royal titles.

Could be a big clue for the future.”

Other royal fans also spotted the omission, with one person writing on Twitter: “Interesting the Queen refers to ‘Harry and Meghan’ not the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“Are they having to give up their titles? This would be an indication they are…”

Another person wrote: “Is there anything in that The Queen refers to Harry and Meghan without any titles? Hope so, because they don’t deserve them.”

Last night the Queen issued a statement saying that she has finally reached an agreement on Meghan and Harry’s future.

She said: “Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved members of my family.”

“I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.

“I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.

“It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”

Meghan and Harry will now be known as Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Although they will not use their HRHs, they will still retain them.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Saturday: “The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”

The statement added that the pair would continue to maintain their private patronages and associations.
