The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have delighted royal fans today with a rare glimpse inside their royal residence. Kate, encouraging entries to her photography competition with the National Portrait Gallery “Hold Still”, spoke from a room the public have not seen before inside the family home, Anmer Hall. The Duke and Duchess are currently at Anmer with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The special property was a wedding gift from the Queen, when the pair married in 2011.

The young family have been living there more permanently since the birth of Princess Charlotte in 2016.

Before lockdown, the Cambridge family divided their time between Kensington Palace in London and the Norfolk home, which is on the Sandringham estate.

Now self-isolating full-time at Anmer, the country house has become a more familiar backdrop for royal fans, and can be seen in many of the birthday photos Kate releases for the birthdays of George, Charlotte and Louis, too.

Prince William told the BBC in April that year: “I’m concentrating very much on my role as a father.

“I’m a new father and I take my duties and my responsibilities to my family very seriously and I want to bring my children up as good people with the idea of service and duty to others as very important.

“But if I can’t give my time to my children as well, I worry about their future.”

Ms Nicholl adds: “It is this worry, say friends, which lies behind the Cambridges’ controversial decision to hide away from the public gaze in Norfolk.”

Speaking in January 2019, royal commentator Angela Mollard also described Kate’s love for the Norfolk country home.

Speaking on podcast ‘Royals’, Ms Mollard said: “[Kate] loves the time they spend in the country.

“She keeps wanting them to go up to Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

“I think if she had her dream come true they would all live up there and they wouldn’t actually have to be in London.”
