Royal fake: Queen’s identity stolen after fake sympathy letter shared online

Queen Elizabeth II has become a victim of fake news after a false message, seemingly from the Buckingham Palace communications team, was circulated online. The false sympathy letter was shared widely in the wake of mass shootings in Ohio and Texas last week. While the content of the letter is well-intentioned and expresses the Queen’s sympathy to those affected by the devastating shootings, it has been confirmed as a fake.

The fraudulent letter copies the traditional format of Buckingham Palace communications.

The image of the letter shared on social media mimicked Buckingham Palace paperwork and even had a Royal Coat of Arms.

The message which was signed “Elizabeth R” read: “During this tragic time, I express my deepest sympathy to all Americans.”

The letter imitated regular communications shared by Buckingham Palace via the Royal Family Twitter account and was reshared by a number of reputable users.

The Queen and Prince Philip arrived at Balmoral yesterday for their annual summer holiday.

As per royal tradition, the monarch’s arrival at the Scottish castle began with an inspection of the Balaklava Company, part of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

During the inspection the Queen was reunited with an old rival in the form of a naughty Shetland pony.

Shetland pony, Cruachan IV, is the regiment’s mascot and fell foul of the Queen in 2017 after he munched on her bouquet of posies.

The outrageous attack on the monarch’s flowers took place on a visit to Stirling Castle in July that year.

But the Queen, who grew up with horses and is a keen equestrian was unfazed by the greedy pony and ordered him to “go away.”

Despite their tricky history, the Queen was all smiles when she saw Cruachan IV yesterday and even gave him a stroke.

Cruachan IV is the fourth Shetland pony to be the regiment’s mascot and follows Cruachan III, who was particularly loved by the Queen.

The Queen and Prince Philip will enjoy downtime at Balmoral until October.

Britain’s new leader Boris Johnson is expected to visit the Queen at her Scottish home this summer.

Mr Johnson has moved into Downing Street with his girlfriend Carrie Symonds but it is not clear whether she will join him for the Balmoral trip.
