Queen Letizia is hoping to distance her daughters Leonor and Sofia from the frivolous image of Elena and Cristina, as well as Elena’s daughter Victoria Federica. The Queen has been seen keeping busy this summer, with her recently attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in London, alongside her husband King Felipe VI. She has proven popular among the public in Spain, being crowned the “greatest star” of the Spanish Royal Family.

The Queen is hoping to distance her children from their aunts Infanta Cristina, 57, and Infanta Elena, 58.

Queen Letizia is also said to be distancing Sofia, 15, and Leonor, 16, from their cousin Victoria Federica who is said to be pursuing a life of “influencing” which has been frowned upon in royal circle.

Victoria appears to be focusing on her new-found hobby, with her recent appearance at Paris Fashion Week solidifying this.

Her father, Jaime de Marichalar often attends fashion shows with his daughter and appears to fully support her new venture.

It appears Queen Letizia hopes to introduce her children to cultural activities whilst on their annual trips.

“She wants her daughters to visit cultural centres, not to watch them stroll around the Náutico all day as the Infantas did”, journalist Rosa Villacastín told a Spanish news site.

This year, the King and Queen and their daughters visited La Cartuja de Valldemossa, a royal palace built in 1309 that was converted into a Carthusian monastery and today houses projects of the Municipal Museum.

“Letizia does want her daughters to go to cultural centres”, insisted Rosa Villacastín, aware of the Queen’s role in ensuring that her daughters learn to enjoy culture and the arts and broaden their cultural level and their intellectual world.

Infanta Cristina, daughter of the former King and Queen of Spain Juan Carlos I and Sofía, found herself in a scandal in 2013 when she was accused of fraud, alongside her husband.

She was investigated and later tried for fraud and acquitted of corruption involving a company owned by Cristina and her husband.

Despite the acquittal, she was nonetheless stripped of her title of Duchess of Palma de Mallorca by her brother King Felipe VI as a result of the case.

But her husband received a prison sentence for a term of six years and three months, which was then reduced to five years and ten months by the Supreme Court.
