It was the second day in a row that the 96-year-old monarch, who has suffered for several months with mobility problems, was able to stand without a walking stick.

She met with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, on Tuesday.

Yesterday, she wore a summery bright yellow dress with a blue floral pattern to greet the Governor of New South Wales.

The Queen is monarch of Australia and Ms Beazley is her representative in NSW.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Archbishop presented Her Majesty with a special cross for “unstinting service” to the Church during her long reign.

The Queen hopes to travel to Scotland for Holyrood Week next week, but a decision will be taken closer to the time.

The monarch wants to be in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh when other members of the royal family travel to Scotland en masse to carry out a series of engagements.
