Days after Her Majesty’s stay in hospital, the Palace has confirmed the Queen will not attend the climate summit in Glasgow. Britons, concerned about the monarch’s health after she was advised not to visit Northern Ireland earlier in October, wished Her Majesty well on social media.

Twitter users responded to the news saying the Queen’s absence is “completely understandable”.

One said: “Very wise I think. Stay safe.”

Another added: “Glad to hear The Queen will not attend given the advice to take lighter duties. Wishing her well.”

One more said: “Oh dear …. She must be feeling very under the weather.”

More users commented Her Majesty’s absence from the climate summit is a “welcome development”.

One said: “Most sensible thing to do.

“I hope we are not going to loose this most consistent monarch.”

Another added: “Away from the super spreader event, and Johnson.”

A statement from the Palace said: “Following advice to rest, the Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle.

“Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the Evening Reception of COP26 on Monday, 1 November.

“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”

Richard Palmer, Daily Express royal correspondent also added on Twitter: “In short, the Queen is up to light duties such as reading and signing paperwork and holding virtual meetings but she is not considered well enough to undertake external engagements at the moment.“
