Princess Diana topped the list ahead of both Meghan Markle and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, according to the Golden Ratio formula developed in ancient Greece. Dr Julian De Silva, a Harley Street surgeon, conducted a facial analysis of leading royals past and present using the complex mathematical rule. The Golden Ratio is most commonly used in geometry, art, and architecture to calculate the relationship of two measures of any kind.

In geometry, the Golden Ratio is denoted by the Greek letter “phi” and is equal to the number 1.618.

Leonardo Da Vinci is widely believed to have used the Golden Ratio to paint the Mona Lisa.

To achieve the Golden Ratio, the smaller measure and the larger measure, must equal the ratio between the larger measure and the sum of the two measures added together.

The method has been applied to see if beauty can be found using maths, rather than the eye of the beholder, by measuring nine facial features against each other.

The formula calculates the size, ratio and symmetry of a person’s forehead, eyebrow, face shape, nose base/lip width, chin, lips, nose width/length, eye position and brow area – then gives a score out of 100 percent.

Using this method Princess Diana received an overall Golden Ratio rating of 89.05 percent.

The Princess of Wales achieved high scores on areas including her nose base/lip width (96.6 percent), eye position (94 percent) and forehead (91 percent).

But, received a lower score on her chin and lips, according to Dr De Silva.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Dr De Silva said: “Diana, Meghan and Kate are all very beautiful women.

“But when measured against the Greeks’ Golden Ratio of physical perfection, Princess Diana comes out on top.

“Diana scored highly for her face shape, the width of her nose, her brow area, her forehead and her eyebrows – which all got the top scores.

“Her lowest scores were for her chin and lips. Her lips are a little thin and ill-defined and her chin is less classical than some of the other women.”

Queen Rania of Jordan came in second place with a score of 88.9 percent and actress Grace Kelly, known as Princess Grace of Monaco, came third with 88.8 percent.

Meghan Markle, came in fourth place with an overall rating of 87.4 percent.

The Duchess of Sussex scored highest on her nose width/length (95.5 percent) as well as her eye position (95.6 percent).

Dr De Silva added Prince Harry’s wife had “beautiful facial symmetry”.

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, came less than one percent behind Meghan according to the Golden Ratio, and received a score of 86.82 percent.

The mother-of-three ranked highest with her nose base/lip width (91.9 percent) and overall lips (90.8 percent).

Dr De Silva said: “Kate stands out for having a perfect gap between her nose and lips and very strong eye spacing.

“She was marked down for having a weaker chin and jawline than Diana.”
