Diana wanted to meet with Ms Evangelista, one of the 90’s biggest supermodels, for coffee in bistro Joe’s Cafe. The Princess was renowned for her style and her connections to the fashion world. Diana also once pranked her son Prince William by bringing supermodels to Buckingham Palace.

Anna Harvey, fashion editor of British Vogue, wrote in 1997 about the late royal’s surprise visit.

Joe’s Cafe was not open at the time Diana and Ms Evangelista wanted to meet, but the bistro made an exception for the Princess.

But Diana, famously regarded as “down-to-earth”, was expected to hate the preferential treatment shown to her by the cafe.

So Ms Harvey planned to stage a full restaurant, and said: “Joe’s was closed in the mornings and so that she wouldn’t know they’d opened especially for her, we roped in a cast of ‘extras’ to make it look busy.”

Diana also once played a prank on a young William, then-13, by asking her supermodel friends to surprise the Prince.

Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Christy Turlington were all asked by Diana to stop by Kensington Palace.

Ms Campbell added in her YouTube series No Filter With Naomi: “I went with Claudia and Christy. And he was coming home from school.

“And we had gotten there before he had gotten home from school and Princess Diana was like, ‘Okay.’ So, we were just like, ‘What do we do?’ I mean, it was so sweet.”

William also remembered the encounter with the supermodels, but was a touch more embarrassed.

He said in a documentary about Diana that he was “completely and utterly awestruck” by their appearance.

William added: “She organised when I came home from school to have Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell waiting at the top of the stairs, I was probably a 12 or

13-year-old boy who had posters of them on his wall.

“I went bright red, and didn’t know quite what to say and sort of fumbled and I think pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up.”

Darren McGrady, former royal chef to Diana, also revealed the risqué birthday cake William got from his mum.

Speaking to Hello Online, he said: “I came into work that morning and went down to the refrigerator, opened the door and I was just confronted with the biggest pair of boobs I’ve ever seen in my life.

“The Princess had ordered a boobs cake for William’s 13th birthday.

“I wish I’d taken a photograph of it! I didn’t know anything about it, I just thought, ‘Oh my gosh.’

“I asked the butler, ‘What on earth is this?’ and he said the Princess had ordered it for William’s birthday.”

Ms Campbell also opened up about how “blessed” was to meet Diana.

She said on her YouTube channel: “Loved Princess Diana, I just loved her. Humble, how down-to-earth and I’m just blessed to know her for the time that I did.”

Cindy Crawford, another famous supermodel, added about how she made William blush when Diana invited her to Buckingham Palace.

She said: “I don’t remember but look I was blushing.

“I was so intimidated meeting Princess Diana and being at Kensington Palace and just how completely down-to-earth she was because there’s so much protocol I guess, and not being English, I don’t understand some of it.”
