The Duke of Cambridge shared his astonishment at his daughter’s growth during his visit to Babcock Vehicle Engineering. Charlotte turned six years old on Sunday – and the royals sharing a new portrait of the young princess to mark the occasion.

During his visit to the West Midlands, William was quizzed about his daughter’s birthday by Jenna Jackson, mother of two and lead HR business partner with Babcock Vehicle Engineering.

The Duke shared how Charlotte celebrated her birthday with another family over the weekend.

He told Ms Jackson: “She had a lovely day thank you.

“Last year it was her birthday in lockdown but this year we were able to have one other family over.

“They grow up very fast. It was great fun.”

William’s visit to Babcock also saw him praise the company for its efforts keeping the police, military, air ambulances, other emergency services, civil service and other organisations running during the coronavirus pandemic.

The company has also produced ventilators for the NHS and made air ambulances Covid secure by fitting screens.

When asked by staff if he was a fan of his police bodyguards’ cars, William joked about his entourage’s driving skills.

He told the group: “The guys really rate them.

“Some of their driving skills need to be questioned. Don’t tell them I said that.”

Marking Charlotte’s sixth birthday, William and Kate Middleton posted a new portrait of their daughter to the Royal Family’s official Twitter account.

While Kate and William usually post pictures on their own Kensington Royal account, the Duke took part in a social media blackout organised by football clubs to stand against racism and abuse online.

The Royal Family’s account posted the image with the caption: “Wishing Princess Charlotte a very happy sixth birthday today.”

Kate took the photo, with Charlotte wearing a £59 floral dress from children’s-wear designer Rachel Riley.

Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, and is fourth in the line of succession.

Body language expert Judi James said, after analysing a picture of the Cambridge royals taking part in Clap For Carers in April last year, that Charlotte was a “little leader”.

She told the MailOnline: “Charlotte does appear to be something of the little leader in the family dynamic, stepping to the front of the pose with her parents interestingly out of eye-line and instigating the clapping, using what looks like the most energy and excitement.

“She also looks as competitive as her mother, as she seems to be putting the most energy into her clapping here.”
