Princess Beatrice wedding: The 3 touching tributes Bea will make to THIS royal

Princess Beatrice, 31, will marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 36, at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace on May 29. While her big day is expected to be a pared-back affair compared to previous royal weddings it is likely to stick to tradition and pay tribute to one of her ancestors.

The Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace seats 150 people and is considerably smaller than St Georges’ Chapel Windsor where recent royal weddings have been held.

While Beatrice’s big day will be very different from her sister Princess Eugenie’s, it will follow in the footsteps of one very famous royal.

Queen Victoria is Princess Beatrice’s four times great grandmother.

Beatrice was named after Queen Victoria’s ninth and youngest child Princess Beatrice.

As well as her name being a direct tribute to the late Queen, Beatrice’s wedding day will mirror that of her royal relative’s in several ways.

The venue

The Chapel Royal is where Queen Victoria married Prince Albert on February 10 1840.

When Beatrice’s exchanges vows with Edo in May it will be in the same spot Queen Victoria married before her.

When Beatrice’s royal wedding date and venue were announced a Buckingham Palace statement flagged the Chapel’s historic significance.

The statement read: “The location for many Royal weddings and christenings the Chapel Royal, situated within the grounds of St James’s Palace, is a busy working chapel.

“The Chapel holds regular services which are open to the general public, as well as hosting some unique Royal services.

“Many Royal weddings have taken place in the Chapel, including that of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg on 10 February 1840.

“In 1893 the then Duke of York and Princess Victoria Mary of Teck (later King George V and Queen Mary) were married in the Chapel.”

The tiara

Royal brides are permitted to wear tiara’s and Beatrice may pick a bejewelled headpiece linked to Queen Victoria too.

The Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara is one of many in Queen Elizabeth II’s collection.

The piece was crafted for the Queen’s grandmother, Queen Mary, using diamonds from a necklace given to her on her wedding day by her mother-in-law, Queen Victoria.

The tiara which is distinctive for its glittering diamond spikes was the wedding day headpiece of choice for both the Queen and Princess Anne.

The bouquet

Royal brides traditionally carry a sprig of myrtle in their bouquets – a tradition which dates back to Queen Victoria.

Myrtle represents love, fertility and innocence, and has been grown at Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s holiday home on the Isle of Wight, for about 170 years.

The plant was first given to Queen Victoria in a posy by Prince Albert’s grandmother in 1845.

Princess Eugenie, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle’s wedding bouquets all contained myrtle and Princess Beatrice is likely to carry a sprig of the symbolic plant too.
