Princess Anne stopped from enjoying treasured custom with grandchildren this Christmas

Princess Anne: Timothy Laurence discusses horse interest

Princess Anne, 70, lives at Gatcombe House in Gloucestershire with her second husband Timothy Laurence. Anne’s two children Zara Tindall, 39, and Peter Philips, 40, both have homes on the Gatcombe Park Estate and see their mother often. Zara and Peter each have two daughters and Princess Anne enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren.

Zara and her husband Mike Tindall have two young daughters – Lena, two, and Mia, six.

Peter’s two daughters Savannah, nine, and Isla, eight, are good friends with their little cousin Mia who is learning to ride ponies with them.

Earlier this year Peter and his estranged wife Autumn announced their separation and now live separately.

Autumn is still based in Gloucestershire near her two daughters who she co-parents with Peter.

Will Princess Anne spend Christmas with her grandchildren?

From December 23 to 27 COVID-19 restrictions will be relaxed across the UK allowing up to three households to bubble-up for Christmas.

During the five-day period, newly formed bubbles should not mix with other households.

Zara and Peter could join Princess Anne with their respective families for the Christmas period.

However, as Anne turned 70 in August she is technically at high-risk from COVID-19 and may err on the side of caution when it comes to interacting with her family.

Grandparents and vulnerable people have been advised against hugging their loved-ones this Christmas in order to avoid the risk of contracting COVID-19.

Anne’s older grandchildren – Mia, Lena and Savannah have all been back at school and mixing with classmates throughout the second lockdown.

Princess Anne is likely to stick by Government guidance and not put herself at risk by hugging her grandchildren this Christmas.

Can you hug your grandchildren at Christmas?

Despite COVID-19 restrictions being relaxed, Britons are still being urged to be cautious during the Christmas period.

Speaking from Downing Street last week, Mr Johnson warned the virus would not “grant a Christmas truce”, and urged people to make a “careful judgement” about meeting elderly relatives.

As such, Chris Whitty, England’s Chief Medical Officer, has advised people joining bubbles for Christmas against contact with potentially vulnerable relatives.

He told the press conference he would not advise people to embrace them if they come over.

Will the Queen see her grandchildren this Christmas?

The Queen and Prince Philip are due to spend their first Christmas at Windsor Castle in 33 years.

The Palace confirmed the royal couple would mark the Christmas period “quietly.”

There have been reports Prince Edward and his family could join his parents for Christmas however whether or not the spend Christmas Day at Windsor remains to be seen.

The Queen and Philip are both at high risk of COVID-19 and if they are to meet with royal relatives and grandchildren they may choose to do so outdoors.

The Queen is a fan of country walks and may choose to meet royal relatives for a socially-distanced spin around the grounds of Windsor Castle this Christmas.
