Princess Anne, 69, is known to be one of the hardest-working members of the Royal Family and was presented with a special new honour as thanks for one of her ceremonial military roles on Friday. The commemoration took place via video link and ended with Anne in stitches.

The Princess Royal was one of the first members of the Royal Family to return to face-to-face engagements after lockdown was eased and has carried out a string of royal visits in recent days.

While Anne is usually a picture of composure on Friday she had a brief giggle during a virtual awards ceremony.

Princess Anne holds several commemorative military roles and is the Colonel in Chief of the The King Royal Hussar’s Woman guard.

She has held the role for 50 years and on Friday she was presented with a medal of thanks for her enduring support.

The medal was presented via virtual ceremony which Anne watched from her home in Gloucestershire.

A special parade was put on in Anne’s honour at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.

The Princess Royal inspected British Army troops via video link before being presented her new medal.

The Royal Family account shared a clip of the ceremony on Twitter with a special message.

The tweet read: “The Princess Royal is presented (virtually) with the Regimental Medal of The King’s Royal Hussars, to commemorate her 50 years as their Colonel-in-Chief (1969-2019) Woman guard.

“HRH inspected the British Army troops on Parade RH Chelsea via video link.”

In the short video Princess Anne was captured speaking to troops from her royal residence, Gatcombe House.

The serviceman leading the military ceremony then said: “Your Royal Highness, may I have your leave m’aam to log off.”

To which Princess Anne replied with a wry smile: “Another first.

“Thank you very much.”

Laughter could be heard in her voice as she added: “Carry on.”

The Princess Royal still appeared to be chuckling as the video came to a close.

Princess Anne has been spending lockdown in Gatcombe, Gloucestershire were both her children Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall are neighbours.

Zara Tindall and her husband Mike appeared on ITV via video link last week to celebrate the first day of Royal Ascot races.

The couple were both dressed to the nines despite being unable to attend the event that was held behind doors.

While Princess Anne is a huge fan of horses and a regular at Royal Ascot she may have missed the start on TV as she was seeing to royal duty elsewhere.

The Princess Royal made an important visit to the Duke of Gloucester Barracks on June 16.

There she met personnel who have been playing their part in the British Army’s response to the pandemic.
