Prince Harry dubbed ‘People’s Prince’ in sweet tribute to Princess Diana

The Duke of Sussex beamed as he attended his first day of royal events in the UK following the arrival of his son Archie last Monday. He visited Oxford today and started with a visit to the city’s children’s hospital. In a children’s cancer treatment ward, Christine George, 52, whose son James, 17, was having chemotherapy, said about Harry: “He said he had all this organised but had a sleepless night last night – not the ideal preparation for his first day at work.”

Harry then visited the Oxsrad Disability Sports and Leisure Centre, which was opened by his mother Diana, Princess of Wales in 1989.

He met people using the gym and undergoing physiotherapy programmes.

The duke ended his day in Oxford by touring the Barton Neighbourhood Centre, a hub for local people which houses a doctor’s surgery, food bank, cafe and youth club.

Despite the lack of sleep, Harry was still in a cheerful mood as he greeted well-wishers who had waited patiently in the streets of Oxford to catch a glimpse of the Prince today.

His warm and friendly presence was praised by royal fans, who commented on a pictures posted by the SussexRoyal Instagram account.

One fan wrote: “The people’s prince, Archie daddy we love you so much.”

Another added: “Keep making your mother proud and William as well.

“She was a wonderful person who came to see us in Bosnia and help us as well.”

Gram_mags_ said: “It’s like looking like how his mother embraced the crowd, so genuine.”

Teamsussex7777 simply said: “Princess Diana would be so very proud of you, both you and Meghan are doing a great job helping and improving the the lives of others.”

Harry also remembered his mother in the Instgram post, which read: “The Duke of Sussex, in celebration of its 30th year, re-opened the OXSRAD Disability Sports and Leisure Centre, a facility first opened by his mother, Diana Princess of Wales in 1989.

His Royal Highness felt honoured to pay tribute to her work and meet some of the people his mother met 30 years ago.”

Harry was also happy to chat to people he met throughout the day.

Fatma Sheikh, 43, from Oxford, could not resist asking the the Duke about his son.

She said: “Harry said Meghan and the baby are doing good and when I asked if he was sleeping a lot he said ‘yes’.”

Meghan and Harry became parents for the first time on Monday, May 6, when Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born weighing 7lbs 3oz.
