Prince Andrew ‘still very much part of family’ as ‘rehab’ plan starts

Prince Andrew is “still part of the family despite not being a working royal”, one courtier has voiced after Andrew’s most-recent public appearance on Easter Sunday. In “contrast” to the Christmas Day service, Andrew was positioned to walk with the most senior royals, just behind the King and Queen Consort.

In his column for the Daily Mail, columnist Ephraim Hardcastle wrote: “[Andrew] was alongside the Princess Royal and just behind Charles.

“This is in contrast to Christmas worship, when the disgraced Duke was obliged to linger behind to avoid being photographed with senior royals.”

He added that one courtier claimed that Andrew’s high profile “wasn’t accidental”.

Mr Hardcastle added that, according to a courtier, Andrew’s positioning “could be interpreted as the King showing there isn’t a rift”.

They added that it could show Andrew’s “still part of the family”.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, Andrew has been pictured a few times on various occasions, including at Balmoral.

Andrew was spotted reading cards and messages at Balmoral, however, according to Giselle Bastin – an associate professor and a British royalty expert at Flinders University in Adelaide, Australia – Andrew was “keen to draw as little attention to [himself] as possible.”

Despite this, a source recently told Page Six that relations between the King and Andrew have “never been this bad”.

They added that there is a ” real battle” between the brothers and is one that the King “never expected”.

Andrew stepped away from the royal spotlight, in 2019, following a disastrous interview with Emily Maitlis.

The 63-year-old came under fire after a sex abuse scandal was thrust into the spotlight, with his name attached to it.

Andrew, to this day, has repeatedly denied all accusations made against him.

Andrew asked the late Queen for permission to step down, with her agreeing to his request.

Despite a few public appearances, including attending both funerals of the late Queen and Prince Philip, Andrew has remained largely out of the public eye.
