Prince Andrew interview: Duke’s Pizza Express claim questioned by security expert

Security expert, Tom, called into James O’Brien’s LBC show to share why Prince Andrew might be able to demonstrate if his Pizza Express story was true or not. The Duke of York spoke to BBC presenter Emily Maitlis in a Newsnight special about his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and the sexual assault allegations against him. The Queen’s son denied that he had any sexual contact with an American woman named Virginia Roberts, who claims she was forced to have sex with him aged 17.

Ms Roberts said she met the Prince on March 10, 2001 at a London nightclub called Tramps.

However, the Duke disputes this, claiming that he was at home and had taken his daughter, Princess Beatrice, to a Pizza Express in Woking for a party.

When asked how he could remember being at Pizza Express so specifically, the Prince told the BBC: “Because going to Pizza Express in Woking is a very unusual thing for me to do. I’ve only been to Woking a couple of times and I remember it weirdly distinctly.

“As soon as somebody reminded me of it, I went, ‘Oh yes, I remember that’. But I have no recollection of ever meeting or being in the company or the presence.”

Speaking on LBC, security expert Tom speculated: “Prince Andrew is one of the principal members of the Royal Family.

“He’s got close protection records which go back.

“The close protection records for the Royal Family are precise down to which building they are in because he’ll have 24-hour protection for where he is at all times.

“If he wanted to be able to demonstrate where he was that night, then he’ll be able to.

“It invites a number of questions, but it also prevents you from being able to use the fit-and-proper, all-above-board excuse, when you’ve clearly gone down a road that you don’t want to be found.”

Tom added: “You’d think at some point after this furore, Prince Andrew would want to step forward and say ‘Look, it’s no problem, I can back up my story’.

“’It was a car crash of an interview. I didn’t get my Lady Di moment. It didn’t go the way I wanted it, but here’s some evidence to say it was just my performance that let me down. It wasn’t the facts.’

“He could then release details of what he was talking about.”

Mr O’Brien replied by saying: “If anyone can track their movements and account for their movements with great levels of detail, it would surely be someone who was under 24 hours of police protection?

“He could have pulled it out and gone ‘oh by the way, here’s the police log of that night, you see here I had a Sloppy Giuseppe and some dough balls’.

“That would be so easy to prove, and although it’s only one of three accusations, he’d have to prove he was there all night because Tramps, to the best of my memory, is open until 5am in the morning.”

Ms Roberts also said she had been forced to have sex with the Prince in New York and Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands.

The Duke of York has “categorically” denied all the allegations.
