Sir John Curtice has issued a devastating assessment of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party ahead of the 12 December general election. The leading British pollster claimed that the Labour Party were “no longer a party of the working class” in a stunning outburst on the BBC. During The Andrew Marr Show’s newspaper review, Sir John took issue with Labour’s Gloria de Piero view of Jeremy Corbyn’s party.

Ms de Piero told Marr that she’s “really worried” about Labour’s prospects.

She said: “Don’t underestimate the massive swing to Tories in big Labour areas.

“We have seats that had big majorities then which are now quite low-hanging fruit. That makes me really worried.”

She went on to suggest that Labour was in danger of losing its “soul” if the so-called Red Wall in the North of England falls to the Tories.

The Labour figure said: “If that Red Wall that we all talk about, if those Labour heartlands fall to the Tories we have to resolve that those seats can no longer be on the table.

“They are our heart, they are us.”

Sir John suggested that the problem for Jeremy Corbyn was that the Labour Party was now viewed as “too left-wing and too socially liberal” in its traditional heartlands.

When Ms de Piero said that this was significant problem for the Labour Party “as the workers party,” Sir John jumped in.

The Professor of Politics at the University of Strathclyde said: “But of course you are no longer a party of the working class. You’re a party of young people.”

He went on to say that many traditional Labour pro-Leave voters had fallen out of love with the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

This comes as the Sunday polls suggest that the Conservatives had solidified a ten-point lead over Labour going into the final few days of the election.

Acording to a Opinium poll, the Tories had opened up a whopping 15-point lead over Labour.

The main political party leaders are continuing to push their election pledges to voters, as the campaign enters its final few days.

Conservative leader Boris Johnson has said that Thursday’s poll was “historic” and a choice to “move forwards” after Brexit.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said the election is a “chance to vote for hope” and he has “the most ambitious plan to transform our country in decades”.
