Police find body in search for missing 22-year-old Rosie Johnson

Detectives searching for missing 22-year-old Rosie Johnson have found a body.

Miss Johnson, from Glasgow, went missing from the kids’ holiday camp in the Isle of Wight where she lived and worked.

Police officers and volunteers have been carrying out extensive searches in the area in a bid to find the activities instructor.

The body is yet to be formally identified but police have informed Miss Johnson’s next of kin of the discovery.

Police are not treating the death as supicious and do not think the woman was a victim of a crime.

John Thorpe, 71, who lives near the PGL Little Canada Activity Centre in Wootton , said police searched his boat and his back garden.

Recalling what he’d been told by police officers, he told MailOnline: ‘They didn’t reveal too much but they said that she was in a distressed state just before she disapeared.

‘The officers wouldn’t elaborate but neighbours have since told me that she may have had an argument with someone at the activity centre.’

Miss Johnson was last seen at a creek near a 50 acre site which backs onto water.

On Wednesday, a Little Canada worker described the Glasgow University zoology graduate as a ‘popular girl’ and said her disappearance was ‘totally out of character’.

The field studies instructor last called her mother on Sunday, hours before she disapeared.

The alarm was first raised by PGL at 9.43am on Monday when she failed to turn up for her shift the following day but Hampshire Police said they didn’t launch a search until 1pm the following day.

Earlier this week, Miss Johnson’s uncle, Scottish Labour MSP Daniel Johnson, urged anyone with information to contact police.

Friend, Brendan Storer, who has been described as having had a relationship with her, also issued a plea on social media, asking friends to ‘please, please, please share’ a police appeal.
