Police ask for public’s help to identify dead man through his clothes

Police have launched an appeal to the public to help them identify a dead man through his clothes.

The body was found by a member of the public in some undergrowth in Great Ashby, Hertfordshire, on 26 May.

The death is being treated as unexplained and is not thought to be suspicious, however, despite extensive enquiries, officers have been unable to identify the man so that they can inform his next of kin.

The body was found on Bray Drive in Great Ashby, Stevenage

In an effort to determine his identity, Hertfordshire Constabulary have appealed to the public for help by asking if they recognise the clothing the body was found in.

The items pictured include a black beanie hat, a grey chequered jacket, a navy blue and pink striped jumper, skinny-fit blue jeans and black trainers.

DS Ben Dixon, from the Stevenage Local Crime Unit, said: “This is a very sad case because one week on, we still do not know who this man is, or what his story was.

“There is no suggestion that there was any third-party involvement in his death, and forensic tests have proved inconclusive to date.

“We estimate that he was aged between 30 and 40, was of slim build and had facial hair.

“We believe his body may have been in the undergrowth for a considerable period of time and our main priority is to trace this man’s family so they can lay him to rest.”

If you recognise the clothing or have any information, you can contact DS Dixon at [email protected], or phone 101 quoting reference ISR 725 of 26 May
