One fighting for their life in M1 crash as driver arrested for drink-driving

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a crash on the M1 left one person fighting for their life.

A rear passenger in a Range Rover was seriously injured and is in a critical condition in hospital following the crash with a black Audi RS4.

The driver and a front passenger in the car were also injured but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The Audi’s driver was not injured, with a 37-year-old man in custody after being arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and driving offences.

The motorway was closed in both directions at junction 23 near Loughborough in Leicestershire just before 11.20pm on the northbound carriageway.

The force said diversions were in place and the motorway is ‘likely to remain closed for some time’.

Police have urged anyone to get in touch with information or dash camera footage of the incident.
