NHS doctors, nurses and paramedics with UK work visas due to expire before October 1 will have them automatically extended for a year so they can ‘focus on fighting coronavirus’, the Home Office has announced.

The extension will be free of charge and applies to around 2,800 NHS migrants as well as their family members, ‘demonstrating how valued overseas NHS staff are to the UK’, the department said in a statement.
