New arrest in shooting of BLM activist Sasha Johnson

Another person has been arrested over the shooting of the black equal rights activist Sasha Johnson, police have confirmed.

The Metropolitan Police said the man, 25, was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in Kent in the early hours of Wednesday.

Mother-of-two Ms Johnson remains in a critical condition in hospital following the incident in Peckham, south London, in the early hours of May 23.

Two men have so far been charged over the shooting, and another four are on bail until late June.

Ms Johnson, 27, is thought to have been shot in the head during a silent disco in a back garden.

Last week her mother, Ellet Dalling, said the family is devastated and don’t know what to tell her two children who have been ‘asking where their mummy is’.

She pleaded for more witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Ms Dalling said: ‘I know it is not always easy, but imagine if it was your daughter or the mother of your children. I believe there are people out there that can help.

‘Sasha is passionate about standing up for others, please come forward and stand up for Sasha.’

Cameron Deriggs, 18 and from Lewisham, has been charged with conspiracy to murder in the case.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 29 and was remanded in custody before appearing at the Old Bailey on June 25.

Devonte Brown, 18 and from Southwark, was charged with the same offence on Friday evening.
