More than 7.6m people in UK have now had both doses of COVID vaccine

More than 7.6 million people in the UK are now fully protected against coronavirus, latest figures show.

Sunday saw the number of second doses given out climb by 189,665 to 7,656,205, while first jabs administered increased by 69,223 to 32,190,576.

Meanwhile, there have been another 3,568 confirmed coronavirus cases and 13 deaths.

It compares to 1,730 cases and seven deaths reported yesterday.

Last Monday, there were 2,762 and 26 respectively.

The latest statistics come on a big day for the UK so far as lockdown restrictions are concerned, with non-essential shopping and outdoor hospitality back on the cards for people in England – as well as a gym session and a haircut.

Elsewhere, in Wales, people can also visit non-essential shops and travel across the border to other areas of the UK from today. In Scotland, non-essential stores will open on 26 April.

Meanwhile, people in Northern Ireland are now allowed to meet 10 others outside as the “stay at home” order has been scrapped.
