The Duchess of Sussex, 38, believes she was “destined” to fight racism in the US and her “gnawing urgency to uproot from England” was fate, the friend claimed. They told the Daily Mail: “Meghan said her work as a leader is more important than ever right now and that she’s been speaking with Oprah and other community leaders on how she can be part of the solution.

“Meghan feels like her mission goes far beyond acting.

“She said she wants to use her voice for change and hasn’t ruled out a career in politics.”

Meghan and Prince Harry, 35, quit the Royal Family earlier this year for a new life in Los Angeles.

They have set up home in Beverley Hills with their one-year-old son Archie.

The Sussexes announced bombshell plans to step back as senior royals in January and officially ended duties on March 31.

Earlier this month, Meghan spoke out about the death of George Floyd which sparked anti-racism protests around the world in a video message to her old high school.

The former actress described the situation in the US as “absolutely devastating” in her speech to leavers at the Immaculate Heart High School.

She said: “I wasn’t sure what I could say to you.

“I wanted to say the right thing and I was really nervous that I wouldn’t, or that it would get picked apart, and I realised the only wrong thing to say is to say nothing.

“Because George Floyd’s life mattered and Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and Philando Castile’s life mattered and Tamir Rice’s life mattered.

“And so did so many other people whose names we know and whose names we do not know.”

Meghan recalled the 1992 race riots in LA, saying: “I’m so sorry that you have to grow up in a world where this is still present.”

She also told students they would be “part of rebuilding” and to “use their voice” by voting.

She said: “Now you get to be part of rebuilding, and I know sometimes people say ‘How many times do we need to rebuild?’

“Well you know, we’re going to rebuild and rebuild and rebuild until it is rebuilt.

“Because when the foundation is broken, so are we.

“You are going to lead with love, you are going to lead with compassion, you are going to use your voice.

“You are going to use your voice in a stronger way than you’ve ever been able to do, because most of you are 18, or you’re going to turn 18, so you’re going to vote.

“You are going to have empathy for those who don’t see the world through the same lens that you do, because with as diverse and vibrant and open minded as I know the teachings at Immaculate Heart are, I know you know that black lives matter.”

The former Suits star felt “compelled” to speak out, a spokesman said.

The spokesman said: “She felt compelled to directly address and speak to these young women about what’s happening in this country right now around the killing of George Floyd, as well as what’s been happening over many, many years and many, many generations to countless other black Americans.”

A source added that Meghan’s “heart hurts” for the young people that are graduating into “a world of uncertainty and injustice”.

She hopes that her words will provide “a small bit of hope, comfort, or inspiration” for the school community.

Meghan became the first mixed-race person in modern history to marry a senior British royal in 2018.
