Meghan Markle ‘heartbroken’ she has not seen her mother Doria Ragland since US move

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially quit royal duties on March 31. They have moved to Los Angeles, where Meghan was born and raised, and where Doria still lives.

But the couple have not visited Meghan’s mother due to the coronavirus outbreak.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: “Meghan is absolutely heartbroken.

“After all, one of the main reasons she decided to live in LA was to be near her mum.

“Because of her age, Doria obviously has to be careful and Meghan and Harry are sticking rigidly to all formal guidelines when it comes to coronavirus.

“They’ve been WhatsApping and FaceTiming almost daily but obviously it’s not the same.”

It comes as Meghan, Harry and their son Archie are starting their new life in the US away from the Royal Family.

The Sussexes plunged the monarchy into crisis when they revealed plans to step back as senior royals in a bombshell statement in January.

They had hoped for a dual role supporting the Queen and earning their own money but the idea was deemed unworkable.

In a goodbye Instagram post, Meghan and Harry said: “As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile.

“Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference—as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line—together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.

“What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic.

“As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.

“While you may not see us here, the work continues.

“Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world.

“We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!

“Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and of one another.”

Royal author Penny Junor said Meghan and Harry are now “pretty irrelevant” as the Royal Family play their role in leading the UK through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Queen, 93, will make an address the nation tonight urging Britain to prove this generation is “as strong as any”.

She will say: “I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge.

“And those who come after us will say that the Britons of this generation were as strong as any.

“That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet, good-humoured resolve and of fellow feeling still characterise this country.”
