Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s charity split from William and Kate ‘very bad’ for royals

Prince Harry, 34, and Meghan Markle, 37, cut ties with Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, this month after they announced their departure from The Royal Foundation. Earlier this year the royals parted households from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and moved to Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle ahead of the arrival of their first child.

The split reignited rumours of an alleged feud between the Sussexes and the Cambridges and Royal author Phil Dampier said the move was “very bad news” for the royals.

He told Yahoo’s Royal Box: “I don’t know if Meghan is going to be sort of portrayed as a Yoko Ono figure splitting them up.

“But I think they are much better together and it is rather strange because only last year William gave a speech in which he said that working together was a much better thing.”

Mr Dampier also said it was “strange” when Harry referred to his brother formally as the “Duke of Cambridge” as he wished him happy birthday this week.

The royal author added: “It was very very formal and just one line and people said ‘oh well that is not very friendly for a pair of brothers who grew up together and relied on each other’.”

The charity announced the split in a statement last week and said the decision had been taken following a review of the charity’s structure.

The statement read: “These changes are designed to best complement the work and responsibilities of Their Royal Highnesses as they prepare for their future roles, and to better align their charitable activity with their new households.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are incredibly proud of what they have achieved together through the Royal Foundation.”

But Prince Harry and Prince William are both “stubborn” and will soon be forced to “pull themselves together” and show a united front, according to royal commentator Victoria Arbiter.

Also speaking on the Royal Box, Ms Arbiter said: “I think where the Royal Family are smart is they like to have everything in order.

“So, we are sort of seeing the groundwork being put in place now for when the Queen isn’t with us anymore.

“No one wants to think about that day coming but it is inevitable at some point. So, to me I think this is another part of that.

“And, frankly, if they are struggling so badly to work together and they think they can achieve better things on their own then so be it.”

She added: “Unfortunately, with William and Harry, they are stubborn and are Windsor men and the Windsors are quite stubborn. But they understand optics.

“Harry and William at some point are going to have to pull themselves together even if they just do an outward display of togetherness.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl insisted it is “absolutely the case” that both William and Harry had a falling out.

Ms Nicholl said the royal brothers “were not talking to each other” at one point over the last year.

But she said the birth of Harry’s son, Archie, has “really helped” to improve their relationship.
