The Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid a surprise visit to the Preschool Learning Center as part of charity work for Assistance League LA to support the lives of the city’s most vulnerable children. During their visit on Monday, the couple helped the children replant their garden and spent time with them learning about nature and healthy eating.

Pictures show the royal couple, both wearing face masks during the coronavirus pandemic, helping dig and water plant beds at the school.

Assistance League LA posted on Twitter: “The children of our Preschool Learning Center got a wonderful surprise when The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited yesterday!

“In addition to helping the children replant the Preschool Learning Center’s garden, they spent time with them, sharing their appreciation for nature and helping to instill the importance of healthy eating.

“We truly appreciate their time and care for our students.

“For more than 100 years, @TheLeague_LA has been providing early education services to children in need.

“Our nationally-accredited preschool instructs 40 students from low-income LA families.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have thrown themselves into charity work in LA during the coronavirus lockdown.

The pair decided to sign up as volunteers for a non-profit in Los Angeles and distribute food to vulnerable people because they felt “helpless” reading about the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across the city.

The pair contacted Project Angel Food, a non-profit helping high risk individuals by supplying them with nutritious food during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Sussexes and their son Archie Harrison jetted into LA last month from Vancouver Island, where they had been hiding out since before Christmas.

The family-of-three have been enjoying down time as they begin their new life away from the royal system.

Harry has previously opened up about family time in quarantine.

Speaking during a video call with families and employees of the charity WellChild, which he is a patron of, the duke said he is “not too bad,” but admitted that “it’s certainly strange times, everyone is experiencing the same thing in a unique way.”

He went on to say quarantine life had given him a chance to slow down and just enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

He said: “Being able to have family time, so much family time where you almost think, ‘Oh, do I feel guilty for having so much family time?’

“You’ve got to celebrate those moments where you just are on the floor rolling around in hysterics because of something that’s happened and then inevitably half an hour later, maybe a day later, there’s going to be something you have to deal with and there’s no way you can run away from it.

“You can’t even distract yourself in a different room.”
