Meghan and Harry to be ‘centre of attention’ on Queen’s big day – ‘every move scrutinised’

Meghan Markle and Harry: Expert discusses future of couple

Reports of the Sussexes attendance at the Queen’s 95th birthday celebrations have circulated which one royal expert has claimed might be “painful” for the Royal Family. Royal commentator Daniela Elser warned that when Meghan and Harry return to Buckingham Palace’s balcony they will be the “centre of attention”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the nation last year when they chose to step down as senior members of the Royal Family.

As part of their deal with the Queen, Meghan and Harry agreed to have a 12-month review with the Palace which is due to take place in March.

Meghan and Harry have been invited by the Queen to join her for Trooping the Colour in June to mark Her Majesty’s official birthday, according to reports.

Royal aides told The Sunday Times that the Sussexes are expected to join the Queen at the event.

Trooping the Colour is usually held in public in London and could be the first time fans see the couple reunite with the Royal Family.

The heavily anticipated return of Meghan and Harry is expected to overshadow the Queen’s birthday plans.

Meghan and Harry have not been pictured with members of the Royal Family since March when the couple attended last year’s Commonwealth Day Service.

Ms Elser predicted that all eyes will be on the Sussexes when they “take their place” on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

She claimed the Sussexes’ “every gesture, glance and word” will be watched heavily by the press and social media.

Ms Elser wrote on news.com.au: “Most glaringly, when Harry and Meghan take their place on the balcony, they will be the centre of attention, with thousands of lenses and cameras trained on the couple as they appear feet, if not inches, away from the Cambridges, Prince Charles and the Queen for the first time in over 12 months (at that point).

“Their every gesture, glance, and word will be scrutinised by the press and social media to an agonising degree, and they will be the total focus of the breathless press attention.”

She also explained why the Sussexes’ return to the UK might be “painful” for the Royal Family.

Ms Elser wrote: “Seeing Harry and Meghan, newly arrived with a Californian glow in the midst of the Windsors, will only serve as a reminder of the seismic events of Megxit that shook the palace in 2020, that is, a reminder of just how painful and turbulent a chapter the Royal Family has just endured and not entirely left behind.”

The Queen is believed to be determined to host the Trooping the Colour parade in its full capacity if the coronavirus pandemic allows it.

A royal aide suggested that the Queen desperately wants her birthday plans to go ahead as usual but will of course abide by COVID-19 rules.

A senior royal aide told The Sunday Times: “The current plan is for the Queen’s birthday parade to go ahead in London as normal, with the acceptance that it may need to be adapted or scaled back depending on what guidelines are in force at the time.

“But the aspiration and the ultimate desire is to make it happen.”

The scale of the parade is unlikely to be confirmed until the spring.

Royal commentator Katie Nicholl said she expects the Sussexes to attend three major royal events in 2021.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “The much-awaited statue tribute to Princess Diana will be unveiled in Kensington Palace Gardens on what would have been her 60th birthday.

“And it is Harry’s intention, and Meghan’s also, to be here in the UK for that opening.

“It may possibly be the first time we see the brothers together, but I think that we will probably see them together in the spring around the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s birthday celebrations. Covid travel plans permitting.”
