M5 traffic latest: Two vehicle crash sparks delays – motorists told to use alternate route

Motorists are being urged to find alternative routes after a two vehicle crash on the M5 on Thursday evening. The traffic collision took place on the northbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 11A. Two lanes are currently blocked, and the incident is expected to cause huge delay for motorists trying to get home during rush hour.

Gloucestershire Police wrote on Twitter: “Warning to motorists – we’ve had a report of a two vehicle collision on the M5 northbound just after Gloucester Services, between junctions 12 and 11A.

“Lanes 1 and 2 are blocked at the moment and will likely cause traffic issues – find alternative routes if possible.”

Traffic cameras show tailbacks already developing because of the incident on Thursday evening.

According to the Gloucestershire Live, police were called to the incident around 4.30pm and the vehicles involved are now on the hard shoulder.

All lanes are now believed to have been reopened – but delays remain.

There are also reports of congestion on the M5 southbound between J20 and J20.

Highways England wrote on Twitter: “Update: M5 Southbound J20 Clevedon to J21 Weston Super Mare.

“All lanes have reopened after the earlier collision.

“Please allow extra time for your journey as some congestion remains. Thank you for your patience”.

Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume just after 7pm this evening.
