Lord Tebbit explains why ‘Marxist’ McDonnell will betray Corbyn ‘at the drop of a hat’

Former Chairman of the Conservative Party, Lord Norman Tebbit, revealed to Express.co.uk why he thought Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell would betray Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn “at the drop of a hat”. Lord Tebbit speculated that if he were elected, Mr Corbyn would not be in Downing Street for “very long” before being replaced by his second-in-command. He also warned that the pair would seek to run British industry and commerce “on the bureaucratic model of Venezuela” if they won the upcoming general election.

Lord Tebbit told Express.co.uk: “If Corbyn were to ever find himself in Number 10.

“Probably with the aide of the Lib Dems, Remainers, Greens and other such people.

“He wouldn’t be there for very long.

“He would be replaced by John McDonnell, the Shadow Chancellor.”

He continued: “McDonnell is at least as nasty, but much more clever.

“He is a much calmer, much more thoughtful person.

“But he is dedicated to his programme.”

When asked if Mr McDonnell could ever betray his leader in that way, Lord Tebbit said: “Of course.”

Mr Tebbit claimed this was because Mr McDonnell and Mr Corbyn are “Marxists”.

He said: “They’d betray each other at the drop of a hat.”

The former member of Margaret Thatcher’s cabinet also issued a warning about what to expect from the Labour duo if they were elected.

He said: “They would seek to run our industry and commerce on the bureaucratic model of Venezuela.”

Lord Tebbit continued: “You only have to look at what’s happened in Venezuela to know that would not be a very good idea. It hasn’t worked in the Soviet Union, it hasn’t worked in China.

“There is nowhere where Marxism has worked.”

The Tory told Express.co.uk that he doesn’t think the British people would ever allow this to happen.
