London marathon TFL updates: Are the tube, DLR and overground down today?

The London Marathon is underway today from 10.10am, as runners compete in the massive 26-mile course. The race runs through key parts of London, including Greenwich, The Mall and Canary Wharf. As such, people who are spending an extra couple of days at the office or have plans which rely on public transport may be affected.

Are the tube, DLR and overground down today?

Thousands of runners and spectators are lining the streets today, with roads closed to prevent any accidents.

Naturally, this means most buses will be on diversion, and train timetables have been slightly altered.

Today there are extra services to make up for the increased pedestrian demand in London.

The Overground, Underground and DLR are all operating on more regular services today.

Event planners with the London Marathon say using the train is the best way to get around today.

However, there will be extra congestion in the Tube today especially at stations near the main race route.

The Jubilee, Circle, DLR and District lines are all situated along the route, so will likely be crammed with passengers.

This could lead to some delays, so if you are unsure about your route you should check the TfL website.

Event organisers with the London Marathon said to expect traffic to rival the London rush hour throughout the day.

They said: “If you are a regular commuter, think rush hour.

“If not, think what it’s like when you attend a concert or festival.

“You will often have to queue and some stations may be forced to shut temporarily while staff clear the crowds.”

Event organisers also revealed which places people should avoid.

According to organisers, the Greenwich town centre and Cutty Sark near the race start are likely to be crammed with people, making spectating uncomfortable.

Tower Bridge and The Mall are at the finish of the race, meaning they will be equally – if not more – crowded.

The runner’s meet and greet area at Horse Guards Road will be full of people rushing to meet their loved ones after the race is finished.
