Speaking on News Idea’s ROYALS podcast, royal commentator Zoe Burrell said: “Kate wasn’t wearing her engagement ring in the photo.”

Royal expert Angela Mollard explained: “That’s right and there’s a reason for that.

“Both of those occasions, the visit to the ambulances and working from home.

“You can’t imagine she’s going to be wearing that ring all the time.

“It’s a massive ring that Sapphire engagement ring which of course was Princess Diana’s.

“She’s not wearing it because of course rings are difficult when you’re regularly handwashing.

“In fact, studies show that the bacteria gets caught in rings.

“I imagine that’s the reason she’s not wearing them, either the sapphire engagement ring or her white gold eternity ring.

“It’s just the very plain Welsh gold wedding band at the moment, very sensible.”

Kensington Palace shared photos of the couple as they self-isolate.

It read: “Self-isolation and social distancing can pose huge challenges to our mental health — in recent weeks The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organisations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time.”

The couple also said in a statement: “It is great to see the mental health sector working together with the NHS to help people keep on top of their mental well-being.

“By pulling together and taking simple steps each day, we can all be better prepared for the times ahead”.
