Heartbreaking reason Queen ‘banned’ Prince Charles from ever going to airport with her

The Duke of Wales was caught by a photographer crying and waving goodbye to his parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh, at the departure lounge of Heathrow ahead of a long trip abroad. Speaking to Channel 5’s documentary Secrets of the Royal Flight, royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner claimed Prince Charles was “banned” from accompanying members of his family to the airport after he was branded “Your Royal Cryness” by newspapers on the following day.

He said: “Charles came to Heathrow to wave goodbye to them and a photographer caught Prince Charles crying.

“Waving and crying he didn’t want to see his parents going away for five months.

“It appeared on the newspapers the following day. I think he was called ‘Your Royal Cryness’.

“After that, he was banned from ever going to see his family off again at any airport.

“There was no public display because that’s not what the royals are about.”

Also speaking to the documentary, royal correspondent Emily Andrews claimed that among other “unwritten guidelines” by the Queen on royal flights is that women in the royal family have to wear tights when they travel.

Ms Andrews said: “The Queen apparently likes female members of the royal family to wear tights.”

Ian Pelham Turner added: “They have to look perfect.

“As if they were on the front cover of Vogue, and that’s how they consider things.”

Emily Andrews also claimed the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate, has a set for each of her dresses when flying.

She said: “Obviously when we go to the airports, especially when it’s hand luggage only, we’re trying to cram all our toiletries into that plastic bag.

“It’s never big enough. No, the royals don’t have to worry about anything like that.

“I’ve been on a plane where all Kate’s dresses had their own seat, to make sure they were kept flat.
