Speaking on the latest episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast, expert Amanda Matta discussed Prince Harry’s memoir and compared the Duke’s decision to release the 416-page read to his own late mother, Princess Diana, who, particularly in her later years, “wrote her own narrative”. The late Princess of Wales collaborated with writer Andrew Morton in the mid-1990s for his book Diana: Her True Story unbeknownst to the Royal Family.

Speaking to the podcast’s hosts Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito, Ms Matta said: “For Harry, he probably looks back at his mother’s legacy and sees, ok the times in which Princess Diana was the most powerful was when she was telling her own story and writing her own narrative.

“So, I think for somebody whose life has been shaped by his relationship with his mother and to the trauma that came with losing her and everything that’s packaged up with that, the relationship with the press and the rest of his family.

“I think that’s really a powerful place for him to pick up the narrative.”

She added that she believes the book could “start with the moment that the world said goodbye to [Princess Diana] and looked at these two boys walking behind her coffin and, kind of, wondered ok, what’s next for them.”

She continued: “So much of what we hear about the Royal Family is said about them or said to them.

“People, like myself, providing commentary. maybe giving some unsolicited advice, but very rarely do we get to hear from the royals themselves.”

According to Penguin Random House’ official website, Harry will, “for the first time”, write about “the moment he and his brother William, young princes still, walked behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched on”.

Harry was 12 when Princess Diana tragically died in 1997.

Prince Harry's memoir could be 'score-settling' says Russell Myers

The late Princess, who was only 36, died from injuries she sustained from a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.

Harry’s memoir, Spare, will be simultaneously available in 16 languages.

Penguin Random House also confirmed that the audiobook version will be read by Harry, himself.

According to Penguin Random House’s official website, the book will be written with “raw, unflinching honesty” and will cover various areas of the Duke’s life.

It showed the Duke’s “dedication to [his] service” in the military and “the joy he has found in being a husband and father”.

After the book failed to appear on the publisher’s list of upcoming releases earlier this year, there was speculation as to when, or whether the memoir would be released, particularly following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The original press release stated that the book was set to be released in late 2022, however, it has now been confirmed that it will be available from January 10, 2023.
